Kinesio tape can be used in treating orthopedic, neuromuscular, neurological and medical conditions.
Kinesio tape and the Kinesio Taping Method provide support and stability to muscles. Based on kinesiology, the tape has elasticity, adherence and breathability to allow the body’s natural range of motion and support the healing process and good circulation.
The added support and stability can greatly improve function and in turn, activity level.
Additional effects can be:
- Normalizing muscle function: Proper taping improves the muscle’s ability to contract even when it’s weakened, reduces a feeling of pain and fatigue, and protects the muscle from cramping, over-extension and over-contraction.
- Improving lymphatic and blood flow: Removing congestion to the flow of body fluids, which reduces inflammation and excess chemical build up in the tissues.
- Supporting joints and tissues/re-educating the neuromuscular system: The goal is improving range of motion and correcting joint positions.
- Reducing and managing pain: Improving blood flow, normalizing muscle function and correcting joint alignment facilitates healing and can aid to the reduction of pain.
